TEANECK, N.J., Aug. 17, 2009 – Being a good neighbor is an ongoing policy at Heritage Pointe of Teaneck. As part of that commitment, the full-service rental retirement community has been sponsoring a number of activities and programs in recent months to benefit Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey.

“With all that Gilda’s Club does to help family members who are caring for sick loved ones, we are delighted to help this great organization in anyway we can,” explained Shelley Edelson, retirement specialist at Heritage Pointe of Teaneck. Gilda’s Club offers free support for everyone living with cancer – men, women, teens and children – along with their families and friends.

Most recently, Heritage Pointe sponsored a fundraising event at one of a series of community outreach networking dinners held at the community for area professionals. The program encouraged residents and visitors to participate by including incentives such as a prize drawing for one-month free membership to The Spa at Glenpointe. Residents of Heritage Pointe have full use of the adjacent gym, exercise classes and indoor pool located in the Glenpointe complex. The community also offered a private dinner party for eight consisting of a five-course meal prepared by Heritage Pointe’s executive chef and served at the winner’s home.

In addition to fundraisers, Heritage Pointe has invited Gilda’s Club to take advantage of its guest suite for families if needed. The fully furnished apartment is provided as a service for residents of the community when they have out-of-town visitors. If it is not being used, the apartment is available for Gilda’s Club member families.

“When a patient is in the hospital, family members may incur an extra cost by staying at a hotel nearby,” noted April K. Johnson, executive director. “By staying with us, families can relax in the spacious apartment and take advantage of the amenities available at our community. It is a much warmer experience that we can provide.”

“Heritage Pointe has been extremely generous with their donations and offers for assistance to our chapter of Gilda’s Club,” stated Lenore Guido, chief executive officer of Gilda’s Club Northern New Jersey. “We appreciate all of the support and look forward to hosting future Gilda’s Club events in conjunction with Heritage Pointe.”
