HUMC Foundation to Honor Richard Dressel of IBEW Local 164 at Golf Outing

June 29th Event Will Benefit the John Theurer Cancer Center at HUMC

PARAMUS, N.J., April 22, 2009 ‚Äì Richard ‚ÄúBuzzy‚Äù Dressel, business manager of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 164, has been chosen as this year‚Äôs honoree at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) Foundation‚Äôs Twelfth Annual Invitational Golf Outing. The event, which will take place on Monday, June 29, is being held at the Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J. Proceeds from the event will benefit the John Theurer Cancer Center at HUMC, New Jersey’s largest and most comprehensive center dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, management, research, screenings, and preventive care of patients with all types of cancer.

Over the years, Dressel and IBEW Local 164 have made generous donations to HUMC’s Cancer Center and annually supports programs such as The Gift Giving Program, which grants wishes of children who are ill and their siblings. In addition, the Local has donated proceeds to HUMC raised by their fund-raising event Project Grandma, an annual drive that assists those who have been diagnosed with or are recovering from breast cancer as well as their loved ones.

“IBEW Local 164 has always been dedicated to the improvement of Hackensack University Medical Center,” stated Dressel. “Northern New Jersey is lucky to have such quality medical care close by. The hospital truly cares about its patients, especially with programs we contribute to. There is no greater feeling than seeing the smile on a child’s face.”

“Each year Hackensack University Medical Center honors someone who is not only a dedicated humanitarian, but a staunch supporter of the hospital and its mission,” said Robert L. Torre, executive vice president and C.O.O. of the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation. “Mr. Dressel and the men and women of the IBEW Local 164 have been and continue to be loyal and major supporters of Hackensack University Medical Center. It is only fitting, therefore, that this year we honor him and the IBEW for their support of the hospital, its services, its programs and its people.”

In addition to his philanthropic efforts through HUMC, Dressel has been honored by Bergen County Habitat for Humanity as Builder of the Year; the Colleen Giblin Foundation as Humanitarian of the Year; the Borough of Oakland; and is a past recipient of IBEW’s Life Saving Award. He was also honored at the Eleventh Annual Archbishop’s Labor and Business Recognition Reception for his leadership efforts within New Jersey’s construction industry, and was named a 2008 All-Star by Real Estate Weekly, which recognized outstanding contributions of individuals active in the commercial, industrial and residential markets throughout the New York metropolitan region.
