Paramus Sunrise Rotary Marks 1st Anniversary; Richard Dressel Honored

PARAMUS, N.J., July 14, 2009 – As a new Rotary year starts, members of the Paramus Sunrise Rotary gathered at a recent Installation Dinner to reflect on the progress made since its inception, as well as induct newly elected officers.

In its first year, the Paramus Sunrise Rotary has donated funds to various charities such as Gift of Life, Theo’s Work, Children’s Aid and Family Services, Freedom Walk Kids of America, Turn a Frown Around Foundation, Pony Power and the Rotary Paul Harris Foundation. In addition, a summer fashion show raised over $10,000 for the Gift of Life organization, which will bring an under-privileged child with a heart defect to the U.S. for lifesaving surgery.

“As a new club, we made great strides in the past year to become a successful organization aimed at helping others in the surrounding community,” stated Anthony Iacono, the club’s outgoing president.

Among those honored at the dinner were outgoing president Anthony Iacono, as well as incoming officers: President Mukesh Malkan of Northwestern Mutual in New York City; President Elect Liz Mason of Children’s Aid and Family Services; and Vice President John DeBouter of IBEW Local 164.

“I am looking forward to continuing a great tradition with the Paramus Sunrise Rotary, and continuing the momentum that Anthony created,” added incoming President Mukesh Malkan.

As a tribute to his dedication and support to the Paramus Sunrise Rotary, Richard “Buzzy” Dressel, Business Manager of IBEW Local 164, was also honored with a Paul Harris Fellow Recognition by the members of the club. In order to become a Paul Harris Fellow, the Sunrise Rotary donated $1,000 in Dressel’s name to the Rotary Foundation’s Annual Programs Fund, which goes toward various Rotary scholarship opportunities.
