Public Invited to Join in Honoring of Service Men And Women

TEANECK, N.J., May 11, 2009 – As part of its intergenerational programming, Heritage Pointe of Teaneck (www.heritagepointeofteaneck.com) will host a White Table Ceremony with students from the Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Teaneck to honor POWs, MIAs, Veterans and Active Service men and women. This special event will take place at Heritage Pointe on Friday, May 22 at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be served. Residents, children and attendees will also join in the singing of patriotic tunes to celebrate Memorial Day.

The White Table Ceremony is a solemn moment meant to call to mind the suffering of and longing for our military men and women who are away from home serving the United States, along with our POWs, MIAs and Veterans who gave their lives for our country.

The ceremony highlights an empty table covered with a white table cloth, and set with a black napkin, a drinking glass which is turned over, a white candle, a lemon slice and grains of salt on a plate. It includes one place setting and a red rose in a vase tied with a red ribbon. Each item is symbolic of the sacrifices of war, and the emotions service men and women and their families endure. This educational ceremony is powerful for both adults and children.

Heritage Pointe is an independent senior-living residence located at 600 Frank W. Burr Boulevard in Teaneck, N.J. To RSVP for this event, or for more information about Heritage Pointe of Teaneck, please call (201) 836-9260 or visit www.heritagepointeofteaneck.com.
